… and it shows. This place comes to life of a Friday night!
Iceland
The Brining of the Two
Blue Lagoon, Iceland, ReykjavíkSo we made it. Our plane landed at 0615 which means no hotel accommodations for a while. Ladera Travel (Our travel agent for almost 10 years now, yes we are that old school) kept this in mind and set us up to take the waters at Bláa lónið aka the Blue Lagoon located between the airport and Reykjavík. The lagoon itself is not a natural phenomenon, it is the output of a nearby geothermal power plant which supplies power and heat to local municipalities. The water is then fed into the lagoon for the bathers. It is actually quite clean and sanitary, the water is changed every two days and bathers are required to shower before entering. The water is full of silicate which is the source of the water’s milky blue shade. Bathers are reminded to drink lots of water, it is quite easy to become dehydrated plus alcohol is served but restricted to 3 drinks only. It was one of the more unique experiences we have ever had. Quite a comfortable experience but at the end I realized that we most likely had a lot in common with a brined chicken…
Some tips to travelers from the U.S.A who come here and I am not talking to the usual reader of our blogs. Talking loud is the easiest way to tell the others that you are from the United States. Please try to keep it down a little, ok? Also the water is warm and comfortable but no, it is not just like your spa pool at home. It really is not unless you have thermal geysers feeding your spa. So stop saying that. Thanks.
After the lagoon it was time to check in, good we were both happy but very tired. Nap then time to go out.
